Why should I hire a Captain for my new boat when I already know how to drive a boat?

Many new boat owners are not new to boats. Often, they have been around boats for years if not decades and are comfortable on them. So why should a first time boat owner hire a Captain for lessons?

1. Even professional boat captains who have been in the industry for years are often limited in their knowledge and experience. Teaching boat safety, knowledge and preventative maneuvering is much different from being able to proficiently operate a boat in a set route. Many professional boat captains could benefit from taking boating lessons from a professional boat instructor.

2. Dangerous weather can come out of nowhere. Maybe you have experience operating your boat in favorable conditions, however you don’t want to be unprepared when the weather inevitably changes.

3. If you have experience in lakes, rivers and bays, you may not be prepared for the conditions in Florida. Fast approaching squalls with record lightning storms, fast tidal currents, dangerous inlets and moving shoals can create chaos.
